| To Dave's Hobby Shack. This is my MAIN love of life (other than Susan and the horses, of course). Before anything else, I have a small favor to ask. As you read this, our sport is under attack by the FAA and Homeland Security. In effect, they seem to want to regulate us (model fliers) right out of existence. I ask that you visit the "government" page in the Academy of Model Aeronautics website - first, to learn about what is happening and second, to forward an e-mail (already formulated by AMA) to your state representatives to help support our sport and American freedoms in general. Just click the link below. It'll open in a new window and you can go from there. Thanks!! And now, on to other things... Well, it's been 10 years (it's positively amazing how time flies when you're really having fun) since the "great aircraft building years of 2001/2002" and most all the planes are doing just fine. The latest "building" projects are also a whole new chapter in flying for our family - Dale's flying, after nearly 10 years of being around the planes. He's even already got his own pages right here in the Hobby Shack. The old Goldberg Sr. Falcon, which I originally built in 1974, still flies nearly every weekend - probably the best RC plane I'll ever fly. Go ahead, take a look-see at what she looked like before the restoration and then click on that picture to see her today. Quite a change, I can tell you. Going one even better, there's the Great Lakes 2T-1A pages, which chronicle an even older plane than the Falcon, the famous 2T-1A sport/trainer biplane of the 1930's. The model dates from 1961 and is being totally restored to flying status, so she's definitely going to be one of the older planes around that are still flying. And, if you want a plane out of the annals of history, take a look-see at my latest acquisition of 2010 - an original Hal DeBolt design - the Mark-2 version of his famous Champion. Originally designed in 1954, this is the 1967 version, and once I got her properly trimmed she turned into a great flier. Then, take a look at the Skylark CL aerobatic ship and Spirit 100 RC sailplane along with the Chronicles of the Spirit. There's a page for the Great Planes kit of the CAP-21 from about 1985, the Great Planes Piper J-3 Cub, and the SIG Akromaster. Finally, there's my "I've wanted it forever" plane, Dynaflite's "Bird of Time" - probably one of the greatest model sailplanes ever designed. It's true, I've wanted it forever - since I originally saw one fly in the mid 1960's. Now I have one. Topping all this off are the birds that my brother gave me in June, 2011. There's a Goldberg Gentle Lady with .049 engine that's a very relaxing bird to fly - loves thermals. Also in the collection is a Goldberg Eagle-II, SIG Midstar-40 and Dynaflite Butterfly with 4-stroke. All are great birds, the Butterfly is nothing short of "epic". Well, come on in y'all, there's a lot to see here. Note: Each page of the Hobby Shack, just like all the other divisions of Wanderings, has a complete directory so you can go where-ever you'd like. Or, you can follow the "next" buttons to take the tour of the entire shack. Welcome aboard! . |
