"...This story is about Christmas Eve.  It's maybe a little sad (you decide).  But please, remember this; Christmas is coming!!

Go, visit your horse on Christmas Day.

It won't take up that much time, and your horse will appreciate the friendly face."

The Day Before Christmas

The barn was full of excitement, kids were everywhere.

They strung up lights around the stalls, even put up a tree in the corner of the barn.

Horse presents were all under the tree, carefully wrapped, and a hint of fresh snow was in the air.

Owners were grooming their horses with care, while the kids were running around the barn, visiting
all the horses.

...except one.

For way back in the barn, out of everyone's sight was an old roping horse.  His master had passed
away.

Now forgotten and very seldom ever taken care of, he stood alone on Christmas Eve.

With his head sticking out of his stall door, he could just barely see all the commotion in the barn.

He heard all the noise of the children, and wondered why no one had come down to see him.

Quietly and slowly he turned and retreated to the back of his stall ... alone.

Much later that night, a soft light appeared at the horse's stall door, the light surrounded a small boy,
an angel who had come to visit.

Quietly the small angel whispered, "Don't be afraid, I'm here to tell you about a friend, he's waiting
for you now."

The old horse leaned out over the stall door and nuzzled the angel.

And with that single touch, there was a bright flash in the stall.

In the morning when they came to feed the horses, they found the old horse dead in his stall.

No one really had anything to say; it was, after all, Christmas Day.

Then again, no one noticed the new hoofprints and boot tracks in the snow leading from the barn.

For, you see, an angel and a cowboy had come back to get a horse and bring him home.
The road to heaven may just be on the back of a horse".
