Eternal Flame 30 October 2005
|
One month ago today,
At Rainbow Bridge stood a dapple gray
The ones there asked him his name
He replied, "It is Eternal Flame."
He told them I cried when he took his final breath
He told them I didn't understand it wasn't death
He told them I would come for him someday
And until I did he asked, "would you like to play?"
Away they ran, kicking their heels
Frollicking in soft green fields
Flame stayed back and spoke to my heart
Said, "Don't worry mom, we never shall part."
"For I'll be there through thick and thin
And I'll always be with you until the end
Then you can come for me at the bridge
And together we will go over the ridge."
In a blink of an eye, he ran away
To be with the herd until the day
I cross that bridge and I say
"I've come to claim my little dapple gray."

Birthday In Heaven Eternal Flame (18 April 2006)
|
This coming Sunday you will be nine.
Your first birthday at the bridge will be just fine.
Instead of pictures and new blankets to unfold
Your hooves will be prancing on streets of gold.
The others, I'm sure, will call out your name
Happy Birthday, Eternal Flame!
I know you'll remember your last birthday with me
When I made you and the others all those cookies.
We spent the day together, you and me,
Took a quiet ride down to the creek.
I never knew it would be your last one on earth,
But oh, how I'll celebrate the date of your birth.
I will remember the great times that we had,
I promise myself I will not be sad.
For your Birthday In Heaven is about to unfold,
And I'll see you prance on streets of gold.
