Walking through a barn one day,
Not looking for anything in particular
I walked past a young quarter-horse
He was as black as coal
With eyes full of fire
And a heart full of love
Three white feet and a snip and a star
Wasn't so tall, just 15.2 hands
But held himself up like a king
Leaned out over his door just asking to be rubbed
When I walked over to him,
Looked him in the eye
I wondered why he was so alone, this dark-eyed king
Gently, he rubbed his forehead on my shoulder
Pulled at my hair with his soft lips
Begging me to stay awhile
I tried to find an excuse to leave
Instead I found out that he had no owner
And was just passing through
I knew what I had to do
So, I made an offer, one that I knew wouldn't be refused
4,000 dollars for a horse as black as coal
Eyes full of fire
And a heart full of Love
Now his search is over
