| On 15 September 2001 Horses Finally Joined Our Family! |
Actually, that's not totally true. Horses have been a part of this family for quite a few years, but there have been
no living horses in our family until very recently, and Susan's first live horse became a member of our littl clan on 17
October 2001.
Wanderings' Horse Country isn't a big commercial site with lots of high-priced paraphenalia, or a line of exotic
horses - it's more the running commentary of an every-day American family with a deeply ingrained that doesn't
have any kind of shelter other than a lot of trees. We just moved them there in July 2006 due to problems that
developed quite suddenly with relatives of the owner of the field they lived on for over 3 years - problems that put
our guys/gal in a dangerous situation that had to be fixed. We fixed it - we got them to a home where they're truly
loved and appreciated by all in the area. We no longer have to worry about fireworks driving our horses into wire
fences, or hunting-bow practice that's set-up to put arrows into the field/horses should the shooter miss his
practice target.
We're not horse experts either - we read every book on horses we can find, we talk to every horse owner we know
for advice and ideas. This is horse owning on a string & a prayer ...
And we wouldn't have it any other way!
In these pages you'll meet our 5 living horses, and a couple who have touched our lives in more ways than I could
ever put into print - including the lady who started it all. She's gone now, but she came to us as a 20+ year old
quarterhorse (QH) mare (Arizona) pregnant with her last baby - now a registered Pinto (Cherokee Sunrise), a
8-year old registered Paint (Mac Prince, but we call him Banjo), a 30+ year old rescued walking horse (Old Blackie)
(now gone from us to the other side of the rainbow), a 16-year old blood-bay QH (Red Max) who knows more about
how to train us than we ever will about how to work with him, and the star of the family - a 5-year old registered
Arabian (dla Basks* Blue Smoke, but we call him Blue).
Anyway, come on in - make yourself comfy - and enjoy the adventures!
