Abuse, Abandonment and Death
Horses are abused, abandoned and killed every day of every month of every year - that's a sad, but very true, fact.  From abuse
and abandonment by owners to abuse and death by veterinarians, and everywhere in between, abuse and abandonment form the
roots from which all other evils come to horses.

The articles that follow are about real cases of horse abuses, abandonments and deaths, horses of the 20th & 21st centuries,
horses that - at least in a few cases - have managed to survive to this day.

Not all were lucky enough to survive.

I make no judgements here - I think the stories themselves pretty well make the judgements for me.  All of the stories here were
given me by people who were/are intimately involved in the individual cases, I'm only collecting them and providing an outlet for
broken hearts and souls.

As you read the articles, I don't want you to enjoy them - although some are rather spectacular in their outcome.  I want you to
think about this very real evil that claims as many horses every year as does disease, commercial slaughter and all the rest.

Then I want you to ask yourself, "is there a horse somewhere that I can help"?  "Is there a horse that I know of who needs to be
rescued and nurtured, loved and cared for"?

Then think about your own horse ...
The single, most terrifying thing that can happen to a horse is that he would
be abandoned and loose the life he's known - be it a good life, full of love and
devotion ... or a hard life, full of work and hardship.
