I know it's hard to tell but he really has gained a lot of weight and strength.  These pics were taken 10 Dec 2002 while he was
waiting for his breakfast.  He's filled out quite nicely, the bones in his rear hips hardly show at all now, his ribs are almost
invisible and his front legs are bigger than his rear legs were just 7 months ago.  Pics were taken a couple days after the first
decent snow (6-7") in several years, a fair amount of which had already melted by now.  As I write this it's now the 12th of
December and we've had a HUGE ice storm come through.  He's fairing the ice better than anyone else, with the possible
exception of Cherokee.

As with everywhere else in Wanderings, just click on the picture for a larger, better rendition.

On the 20th of March 2003, the last day of winter, our worse fears came true - Blackie left us.
He held the family (equine & human) together for 10 months, he showed the other horses how to
survive a really nasty winter and, when the weather warmed and his job was done, he crossed the
rainbow bridge.

I really miss my old man, there'll never be another like him.
Blackie's in much better shape now
