You know, everybody has something to remember any given base by - I guess mine would have to be a combination of renting &
riding horses on weekends, the occasional dinners (steak, of course) at Zentnor's Daughter's restaurant, and the look on the OSI
agent's face when we had an interview about me getting married.
Back then, the military didn't figure we had the brains to know what we were doing when it came to things like marriage (they MAY
have been right). We had to get the Commander's permission (still have my paperwork authorizing me to marry), and then, because
of the security concerns we had to have an interview with the OSI. Mine was a bit more than interesting - remember, Susan is half
Russian, half Italian. In the Security Service, this was apparently no laughing matter.
On the day of my interview, I remember walking into the OSI office where I was met by this agent who looked more like Himmler
(of Gestapo fame) than Himmler did. He sat back at his desk and harranged me for the better part of an hour, warning me of
security clearances, spousal kidnappings, the whole 9-yards. Finally, he asked the fateful question, "tell me a little about her". I did!
My first words were, "...well, she's half Russian", at which point this Gestapo agent who had been so cool and over-lording all
afternoon, came out of his chair and leaped over his desk shouting "she's a WHAT?!?????!??!!"
Guess I sort of made his day. Anyway, I got the clearances, got the girl, and have always had a laugh when I think that I probably
shortened that guys' life by several years.
Welcome to Goodbuddy Airplane Patch At least, this was Goodfellow AFB, as we knew it - way back when.

There are 3 main pictures on this page - click on any of the thumbnails to get the full-size pic.
This first picture is an overview of the base, way back in 1966 - just a couple years before I got there. Very little changed between 66 and 69 on Goodbuddy. First thing you might notice is the large building at the very bottom of the pic - bldg 501, where all the intel training took place. My barracks were way up at the far end of the base, last row before the fence, 2nd bldg from left, not counting the hangers.

You know, I saw this antenna many times while at Goodbuddy and could never find out just exactly what it was all about - nobody seemed to know anything about it. Had to look it up on the GAFB website to find out its entire history - 35 years later. Come to find out, it was erected as a training aid for the maintenance types. Sheesh!

Oh, you've GOT to click on this one. I remember the room very well, but sure don't the instructor was one of mine. Anybody know the name? Picture was taken in 1968.

Lot of little memories, but none really worth relating, other than the "Gestapo" guy.
